What's necessary to install SQLDetective
or its kits on my computer? |

To install SQLDetective
or an kit, you need the installation program. If you do not have
it, click here to download
the latest version. After downloading this zipped file, unzip it
to a temporary folder and run the setup file to install the program/kit. |

I have bought a license for the program. How do I unlock it? |
| Once the license is purchased, the customer will be sent an email to
the email address specified when buying the license. The email will contain
an attachment that unlocks the program. This attachment must be copied into
the program folder where SQLDetective
is installed, for example, C:\Program Files\SQLdetective.
If SQLDetective
is running, it should be closed prior to copying the attachment. |

What are the differences between trial and full versions? |
The trial version includes all available kits
and has the following limitations:
- Evaluation time is limited to 30 days from installation.
- The maximum amount of data is limited to 1000 database
records.

How to upgrade my registered program/kit? |
|
When you purchase a license to use any of Conquest Software Solution products, you are licensed to use the version and release that is current when you make the purchase. For instance, if you bought version 2.5.7.31, you can upgrade to any other version 2.5.x.x free of charge. For further information click here. |

I cannot connect to the Oracle database, because I get a "Cannot
resolve TNS service name" error. |
|
This error appears because either the Oracle client (SQL*Net,
Net8, Net9, Net10, Net11) is not properly installed on your computer or the database
alias you are using is not in the tnsnames.ora.

| This error appears when Oracle client (SQL*Net, Net8, Net9, Net10) is not
properly installed on your computer. The SQL*Plus program does not use Oracle
client to connect to the Oracle database, so it cannot be used as a program
for testing Oracle client installation. Refer to the Connection to

I have multiple ORACLE_HOMEs on my client. Is it possible to select
the HOME that I want? |

Yes, it is possible. To select the desired ORACLE_HOME:
- Run SQLDetective.
- On the Connection Window click on the Options
button. The Connection Settings dialog
will open.
- Select the HOME from the Oracle Homes drop-down list.
- Click Apply and close the dialog.

I want the program to restore the windows I was working on the next
time I open SQLDetective.
Does SQLDetective
offer such a setting? |
| Yes it does, moreover, you can additionally adjust saving size, position and state of windows. To enable this feature, select View | Preferences
from the application's main menu and select the windows from the list you want to restore on the next time. |

How do I hide all owners, except the owner I use, from the Object Navigator
window? |
| To hide rarely used owners/objects from the Object
Navigator's tree, apply customizable filters. You can easily create
several different filters for different object folders and quickly change
between them with one-click. |

I often open multiple concurent connections and a variety of session-related
windows such as Stored Program Editor, Smart Dataset, Object Wizard etc.
Does SQLDetective
offer a setting or special feature that allows me to view the active session
windows only? |
| Yes it does. To enable the active session window, select View
| Active Workspace or click the corresponding button on the application's
taskbar. This displays only the session-related windows of an active session. |

I can't change an object owner in Object Wizard (e.g. Table Wizard)
when creating a new database object – the Owner List is inactive. Is it
possible to create an object in a different schema? |

Yes it is. To create a new database object in a different schema:
- Select Object | Create New from the application's
main menu. The Create new object dialog will open
- Select the desired Owner/Schema from the Owner drop-down
list
- Select the object type from the Owner Objects list
- Click OK. An Object Wizard window
will open
- Specify object properties, if necessary, and press Ctrl+F9
to create a new object in a different schema
Note: Make sure you have been granted the CREATE ANY
VIEW system privilege, required in order to create an object in a different
schema. |

I browse a table that contains a large number of records using Smart
Dataset. How do I filter data if Smart Dataset does not allow me to modify
the query? |
|
Smart
Dataset allows you to filter, sort and group data without having to
modify a query by using the Query-By-Example (QBE) feature.
To filter a result set:
- Press F7 or select Enter Query from
the popup menu of Smart Dataset to switch to QBE mode
- Define restriction criteria ('%dep%' or '> 10' for example) in
the columns you want to filter
- Press F8 or select Execute Query
from the popup menu of Smart Dataset to filter the dataset

Does SQLDetective
support SQL*Plus commands, and is there a way to execute SQL scripts? |
|
1. SQLDetective
supports basic SQL*Plus commands. To look through the command list, select
Show Command List from the SQL Editor pop-up menu.
2. SQL Editor
allows you to execute any SQL script, using the following format: @<path>\<script_name>.
To execute a script press Ctrl+Enter or click the Execute
button on the SQL Editor's tool bar.
3. SQL Editor provides direct execution of statements in SQL*Plus. |

Is there a way to view messages sent by the SYS.DBMS_OUTPUT package
while executing a stored procedure? |
|
Yes there is. Both Stored Program Editor and SQL Editor
display messages that were sent by that package.

My stored procedure outputs a HTML page. How can I see this page? |
|
There are two ways to view HTML output:
1. In SQL Editor - check the Read HTML output setting
on in the preferences drop-down menu and execute the stored program. After
execution of the stored program completes successfully, an HTML Editor
window will open with HTML output.
2. In Test SQL - go to the HTML Output tab page and check the Toggle
activity of HTML output button on. After execution of the stored
program completes successfully, HTML output will be displayed in the Test
SQL's HTML viewer. |

How do I unlock the program/kit? |
|
To be able to use the licensed version of SQLDetective,
the program must be unlocked with a valid unlock key. Unlock the program
by following these easy steps:
- If SQLDetective
is running, exit the program
- Save the attachment as sd_*.lic file in the
SQLDetective program folder
- Make a backup copy of the unock key, for future use.

I have lost the unlock key and cannot run SQLDetective.
What should I do? |
|
If you have a backup copy of your unlock key, simply copy it to the folder
where SQLDetective
is installed, otherwise you need to request a new one. To request a new
unlock key, do the following:
- Select Support | Request Unlock Key from the website
menu
- You will be prompted to log in, If you aren't yet
- Select Reason from the drop-down list
- Write comments that describe how you lost your unlock key
- Click Submit
Our support team will consider your request and if approved, a new unlock
key will be sent to the license owner's email address. |
